The visual art program at Douglas supports the goals of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study as these goals are implemented in the classroom setting; visual art goals are interwoven into all art lessons that support academics.

Students are exposed to a variety of media and techniques which become more complex as the students move to higher grade levels. Creatively solving problems that occur in art lessons is a priority; cultivating this ability is an advantage in all areas of the student's life.

Student work is displayed around the school, as well as in various venues away from the Douglas campus.
