Second Grade

Summer Activity Calendar | Summer Great Books Reading List | Supply List

Second grade is a time of change. Students become more independent as they learn more about their world and those around them. Students change from learning to read to reading to learn. Their writing grows from simple sentences to creating paragraphs focused on a main idea. Through hands on explorations students learn more about the number system moving from 100 to 1000 including addition and subtraction with regrouping. Science units explore change through life cycles, matter, weather and sound. Social Studies helps children compare and contrast the world around them by exploring communities and cultures, past verses present, landforms and maps and economics.
