DANCE INFORMANCE – MARK YOUR CALENDARS!
2nd Graders Take the Stage by
Storm!
Each
2nd grade class has created a dance depicting a storm or weather
event. They have taken their knowledge of weather from science class and
combined that with our dance elements to tell the story of the storm from
beginning to end. Join us for heat and wind, rain and snow on Wednesday,
May 21st at 2:45 in the gym.
4th Grade: Poetry in Motion
The 4th graders have been
analyzing and interpreting the poetry of Langston Hughes. Combine that
with their study of Alvin Ailey's choreography, dance elements and the the themes of oppression and hope, and you have a recipe
for beautiful choreography. Their ideas and expression shine through
in these wonderful dances. Join us on Friday, May 23rd at 2:45 pm in the
gym.

Graders Dance a Story
What do stories and dances
have in common? Beginning, middle and end! Each first grade class
is using a book as inspiration to choreograph a dance. Just like the
books, their dances must have a beginning, middle and end. Each book was
chosen for its connection to the 1st grade science or social studies
curriculum. Come see 1st grade creativity in action as they dance the
stories on Tuesday, June 3rd at 2:45 pm in the gym.
SCHOOL STORE ....
The school store will be closed during EOGs
(Tues, Wed, and Thursday of this week).
It will re-open Friday and continue until May 30. A new order of things
will be coming in next week, so stock up for the summer, and come back to see
us again next fall! Thanks for your
business this year - it's been a busy one!
It's that time of year! ALL library books MUST
be returned to the Media Center or paid for no later than Friday, May
23rd. The last day to check out books will be Thursday, May 22nd, but
they must all come in the next day. The Media Center will be CLOSED after
Memorial Day to begin our annual inventory. Questions? See Mrs. Bussell in the Media Center or contact her at ebussell@wcpss.net or
881-4899. Thanks for your help in maintaining our school's library!
Thoughts from the
Counselor...
It's hard
to believe that the end of the school year is coming! Although many
of our students (and teachers!) are very excited about this, some are very
anxious or stressed. There may be changes on the horizon, such as a
new school next year, upcoming testing, a move, a family change, etc. It
doesn't take much for some of our students to feel worried or stressed.
Stress is
when you are worried or anxious about something. This worry can make your
body feel tired and sick. In addition, it can make you feel angry, sad,
scared, or nervous. Many things can cause stress in your life but
not all stress is bad for you. Bad stress can happen if stressful
feelings keep building up over time.
Once you
realize your child is feeling stressed, there are many things you can do to
help your child. Here are some suggestions:
§
Talk
to your child. Sometimes just allowing your child to have someone to open
up to is a relief and can reduce the stress quickly.
§
Make
time everyday for fun hobbies or activities. If your child is involved in
several activities, make sure they are not feeling overloaded.
§
Teach
your child basic relaxation skills, such as deep breathing and
stretching. Combine this with your child's favorite music.
§
Encourage
your child to get some exercise. Better yet, join your child. Take
a walk after dinner or go for a bike ride. Exercise is a great stress
reducer and is good for your health.
§
Make
sure your child is getting plenty of sleep and is eating healthy.
If you
are noticing your child is exhibiting stress for an extended period of
time, talk to someone about it. Come by and see me, Kelli Williams, or
talk to your pediatrician. Remember that you are not alone.
Millions of families in our country deal with stressful situations every
day. Learning to handle stress is good for your health and your family's
happiness.
Calling all parents
with tools!!
We have
two very old, rusty, heavy soccer goals that need cleaning up and repainting.
If you are interested in this project please contact me at kahamilton@wcpss.net or
881-4894. I am trying this route before asking the PTA for help to
purchase permanent goals for our playgrounds. I would like to have this completed
by August so the children can come back to a new year with nice soccer goals
waiting for them. Thank you for your help and support as always, Kim Hamilton.
End of Year GreenTeam Workday
Please come join
us for the last Workday on Saturday, May
31st from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM. Please bring your garden
tools (shovels, hard rakes, pitchforks, hand trowels, and wheelbarrows) as we
spend a Spring morning tuning up the landscape around our school.
Everyone is welcome, from beginners to experienced gardeners, as we share some
chores along with conversation. Children are always welcome to help the
grownups or just play together. Please also feel free to bring a picnic
lunch and we'll bring a grill and cook some hotdogs to enjoy afterward.
If you have questions or comments, please call Anna Wilder at 870-0566 or email
me at annawilder.nd@gmail.com.

for the summer.
