7TH ANNUAL VARIETY SHOW

Please come and enjoy the 7th Annual Variety at Douglas Elementary.  The performance will be from 7 - 8:00 pm on Thursday, March 13th, in the gym.  The show is always fun and lively entertainment.  Singing, instrumentals,

athletics and a teacher skit are sure to be enjoyable!  See you there!

For safety reasons, the school needs to make sure the gym is not over capacity.  Therefore, tickets will be issued as people arrive on a first come first serve basis. These tickets are free. Tickets will not be issued for people not present - can't save tickets for friends joining you later - sorry.   Participants will each receive 4 tickets for family members.  This will only be 25% of the audience, so there should be 300 tickets available that night.  Once the 411 tickets have been given out to individuals, no

one else will be allowed to enter the gym.

I NEVER SAW ANOTHER BUTTERFLY:  a Huge Success!

Congratulations to Mrs. Gainey and our students, as well as the four students from Sanderson High, for an awesome job on their production.  Two of the high school students were Douglas alumni, Justin C. and Jillian M.  The play was well done and, when speaking with some third graders, they really got the message of what the author was trying to portray.  Thank you to Mrs. Gainey and the cast for their hard work and amazing performances!

Read Across America Day

Thanks to everyone who participated in Hat Day on Read Across America Day!  We raised $173 that will be used to purchase some new Dr. Seuss books.  Check out the bulletin board outside the Media Center to find out how Douglas students celebrated the day.

Save Those Plastic Grocery Bags!

In honor of Earth Day , Harris Teeter and Trex Corporation are collecting plastic grocery bags from participating schools.  We will begin collecting bags next week!  The school collecting the most bags wins a new bench made out of the Trex composite lumber and $500.00.  We will have collection bins inside the school soon.  Your children simply drop the bags inside.  Thanks for helping celebrate Earth Day!

VocalMotion Presents: Life is a Highway

Our own Ms. Ziehl will be performing with VocalMotion!

I’d like to invite you to ride along on a musical journey filled with high-energy singing and dancing as VocalMotion, the SAS show choir, presents their 16th annual show, Life Is A Highway. This year’s performance will be presented March 13-16 in the Building V auditorium at SAS. Audience members of all ages will enjoy a variety of pop, country, and classic rock ‘n roll hits from artists such as Bon Jovi, Styx, Rascal Flatts, Elvis, and The Contours.  They will also take a tour of Broadway with tunes from shows such as A Chorus Line, The Wiz, and Dreamgirls. And no one will be able to resist tapping along to their favorite ABBA songs set to stunning choreography as the show choir presents a medley from the hit musical Mamma Mia!

VocalMotion’s performances at SAS are Thursday through Saturday, March 13 - 15, at 7 p.m., and Sunday, March 16, at 3 p.m., in the Building V auditorium. SAS is located in Cary on Harrison Avenue near the I-40 exit. For directions or more information about VocalMotion, visit www.vocalmotion.org or call 677-8000, ext. 43236.

Each year, VocalMotion supports a charitable or nonprofit organization via donations collected at the annual performances. Last season, the group raised over $6,000 for Fisher House of Fort Bragg. The 2008 performances will benefit The Healing Place™ of Wake County (www.hpowc.org), a non-profit 501 (c) (3) recovery and rehabilitation facility for homeless people with alcohol and drug dependency.

I hope to see you at one (or more) of the shows!
