The Douglas Winter Carnival is just around the corner on Saturday, February 23, 10 am to 2 pm!  The first hour of our carnival (10 to 11 am), we will be welcoming "Leo”, the miniature therapy horse.  He loves to be petted by children!  Come enjoy, relax and learn about this wonderful, popular therapy pet.  Leo is from the organization "Stampede of Love".  His handler has trained Leo to do jumps and they will entertain us outside between 11 and 11:15 am.   Come early to enjoy this special treat.

While you are there, plan to jump in a GIANT inflatable, have lunch, play putt putt, shoot some hoops, visit the Bottle Shop and win a cake at the CAKE WALK!  Get your face painted and make sure to stop by our “CRAZY hair” booth.

Tickets will go on sale soon.  Don’t miss the fun!  Bring your family and friends!

For information and to sign up to volunteer to work a game shift, help set up or clean up, contact Debbie Parnell 782-9260  DJPARNELL@BELLSOUTH.NET

JUMP ROPE FOR THE HEART

What is it? This is a Wake County Public School System supported fund raiser during the month of February.  We collect donations to support research, education, and development of new medications for stroke and heart attack victims. We jump rope every week in our PE classes along with games to teach our children how to make healthy food choices. The signs of a stroke and heart attack are taught along with how smoking affects our heart.

The event is held during PE class the week of February 25-March 3. The students are allowed to jump rope in many different ways in honor of people who have had a stroke or heart attack.

Our school goal is $6,000. Last year we raised over $5,000 for this worthy cause. Thank you ahead of time for all your support here at Douglas.

Donations are due by:  February 22 to your child's homeroom teacher. Prizes will be ordered once all our money is counted. It should take about 3-4 weeks to have the prizes delivered.

Please share information with your children this month about how you take care of your heart. Take walks as a family; participate in activities that get your heart rates up. Healthy meals and snacks are encouraged. I have asked all our children to request healthy snacks and meals. It would be wonderful to have your children help you plan some healthy meals with you and go grocery shopping to take a look at food labels.  Thank you for all your support during this event. We all have loved ones or know of people who have suffered heart attacks and strokes. Please join us in reaching our goals for this worthy cause.
