Treasure Island Auditions
If your child has turned in their audition form, they have received (or will shortly) a confirmation slip with their exact time and a scene that will be used for the acting audition. Make sure you see it!

PTA Nominations for 2006--2007
The PTA nominating committee for next year is beginning to get to work. Becoming a part of your PTA Board or any committee does not require any special skills-just a willing heart and enthusiasm!

Valentines Day Candy Sales
Thanks to all who participated in this candy sale.  The sale profits will go directly to the Duke Children's Hospital.  A special thanks goes out to Douglas Student Council and Ms. Kelli Williams who worked especially hard to make sure these Valentine's got packaged and delivered.

Dismissal, Parking, and Carpool
We are working on the traffic congestion during arrival and dismissal.  More information to come in the following Dragoneers.  In the meantime, please do not park on Douglas' side of the street near the bus entrance and carpool entrance.  Both parking lots, and the gravel lot by the modulars are open for parent parking.

Variety Show Auditions
All applications must be in my March 1st.
Tryouts are March 10th.
Mandatory Dress Rehearsal is March 14th .

Student Council Primate Project need Donations

On Friday Jan. 13th seventeen members of the Student Council (and a couple of younger Douglas Dragons) stayed after school until 4:30 to make treats for monkeys who live at Mindy's Memory Primate Sanctuary which is in Oklahoma.  It is a permanent home for monkeys who were former pet monkeys or for monkeys who are retired from medical research.   Beth Levine, the PreK teacher here at Douglas is a Board Member of this primate sanctuary organized a project for the student council to make treats to send to the monkeys.  The student council members enjoyed it so much they have decided to continue this project and will be making the treats again in early March.  The following donations to make the treats will be greatly appreciated. 
       
· Toilet paper tubes
· Paper towel tubes
· Trail mix (yogurt covered and cheese flavored is fine)
· any UNSALTED nuts (including shelled nuts which they love to open)
· raisins
· small pretzels
· UNSWEETENED dry cereal such as cheerios
· Seeds (sunflower, etc)
· Monetary donations to purchase above things and to help pay for shipping cost
You may bring these items either to Beth Levine or to Kelli Williams in the main office.

Odyssey of the Mind

This year is the first year of Odyssey of the Mind at Douglas.  It is a national competition being at the local levels.  Douglas has fielded five teams of seven members each.  The teams and their dedicated leaders are feverishly working toward the competition day March 4th. The teams will be presenting their problems on Science night (March 2nd). If you can, come to Chapel Hill High School on March 4th to support our five fabulous OM teams!
