“The
Essentials Behind Douglas”
We’ve finally reached the end of this ten-part series on
what makes Douglas such a unique place to teach and learn. With our Creative Arts and Science Magnet
theme in place, and the A+ Schools Network behind us, we continue to strive to
help the Douglas family to be all they can be.
Those eight essentials - arts, collaboration, curriculum, enriched
assessment, infrastructure, climate, multiple intelligences and experiential
learning - continue to guide our decisions as we grow, create and reflect. When you visit Douglas, we hope you will
continue to see teaching that is arts-infused and that nurtures each student’s
unique strengths and inspires them to soar beyond traditional
expectations. We hope you’ll join us in
supporting all the wonderful things that happen at Douglas, the things that
make us one of the most creative and exciting schools in Wake County!
If you still have questions about Douglas and our unique
program, or just want to stay connected, please feel free to contact Michelle
Burrows, Douglas’s Magnet Coordinator at mburrows2@wcpss.net or at 881-1425.

Project
Mittens
The Helping Hands Committee works throughout the year to help provide clothing, books, backpacks, field trips, etc. to children at Douglas who may not be able to have these essentials otherwise. The help we have provided in the past has been accepted with much thanks and appreciation. We are so happy to provide this service and give thanks to those who have supported the project in the past.
This
year we will continue to enhance our Helping Hands Committee work through our
Project Mittens Bulletin Board. The board, which will be in the main
hallway, will contain red mittens with a gift request from a child.
After choosing a mitten stop at the office to register your mitten
number. If shopping is not in your plans, you can consider a cash
donation. All donations will go directly to help students in need either this
holiday season or later in the year. Confidentiality is completely maintained
for all involved. Any questions? Contact Kelli Williams - school counselor
or Susan Steltenpohl at 788-0941. ssteltenpohl@nc.rr.com
