It’s Looking Cloudy Out There …

Plan to dress appropriately because the forecast for Tuesday, October 13th is Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs.

The PTA is sponsoring a FREE spaghetti dinner from 6-6:45. Following dinner, students and their families will have the

chance to hear different books read by our very own teachers and staff during three 15 minute rotations from 7-7:55pm.

There will be stories or excerpts of stories for all grade levels to enjoy. You may be surprised to see the teachers dressed

as a character from one of your favorite books. Please plan to come and enjoy an evening filled with lotsa pasta and lotsa

reading!

The Book Fair will be open from 5:45-7:45pm for you to browse and purchase books for your family, or to purchase and donate to a Douglas teacher. Let’s make the spaghetti dinner and Book Fair one that will put our students On Top of Spaghetti.

Please email Garnett Webb (rodgarn@bellsouth.net) or Jenny Sturm (jsturmpremier@bellsouth.net) if you have any questions.

BoxTops for Education

Thank you to those who have already turned in BoxTops! October 20 is the deadline for the fall submission. Through the week of October 2, Mrs. Hofmann's first grade class has the most BoxTops collected with 189. The class that turns in the most BoxTops by the deadline will win a special treat. Please neatly trim the General Mills BoxTops from participating products, put them in a plastic baggy with your child's and teacher's names on a piece of paper and send them in to your child's teacher or drop them in the collection container outside the Parent Resource Center. Please make sure the expiration dates are clear on each trimmed BoxTop. For a complete list of participating products, please visit BoxTops4Education.com. If you have any questions, contact Laurie Lin at changlin@bellsouth.net. Thank you!

PTA NEWS:

* Family, friends and parents - we will have a membership table set up at the book fair kick off. If you have not been able to join you still have time! We’d love your support! If you have any questions please contact Sara Rodriguez at sabraddy@yahoo.com or Nancy Horner at nancy.horner@snbhotels.com

* The Douglas PTA Board and Staff are in need of an architect to design our Outdoor Learning Center. We have a sketch of what we'd like and a contractor to do the work. Now all we need are official drawings! If you are an architect and could donate your time to this great endeavor, please  contact Kevin Houghton at Kevin.Houghton@kbr.com.

THANK YOU!!

I just wanted to send a warm thank you to the PTA for the ''coffee cart". As usual you guys always seem to come at the perfect time. I also want to send a thumbs up to the parents for heading up some new and exciting clubs! We truly appreciate the support! Douglas is very fortunate!

MARK YOUR CALENDARS

SPIRIT NIGHT: Come out to Spirit Night at North Hills on Oct. 21st and support Douglas. We have not one but three great restaurants to chose from: Chick-fil-A, Moe's and McCalister's Deli will all be participating in this event. It runs from 5:30 till 7:30 pm. Just bring in the flyer that will be coming home with your child to one of these restaurants and Douglas will get 10% of the profits from your meal. Join us at North Hills and enjoy a great fall evening with your family and friends!!! If you have any questions contact Kate Gilmore at katemgilmore@hotmail.com or Courtney Tellefsen at courtney@theproducebox.com. Hope to see you there!!!

ARTS NIGHT: This year's Arts Night on November 10tth will have an international theme. We have many families that are from or have visited other countries and we need your help!

First, we'll be hosting an international art exhibit and need your international art! If you have art, crafts, photos, costumes or instruments from any foreign country that you are willing to share, we'd love to place them in our display case! Items must be labeled with family name and delivered to the main office.

On Arts Night, if you or someone you know is interested in sharing an art form (dance, drama, music, visual arts) from another country, please let us know. We are looking for performers as well as activities that students and families can participate in.  If you are interested, or for more information, please contact Michelle Burrows at 881-1425 or by email at mburrows2@wcpss.net

PTA 5K: Sunday, November 22 at 3:30pm, the Wake County PTA is sponsoring the Wake PTA Healthy Lifestyles 5k.  We have the opportunity to show other schools in Wake County how supportive and involved the families at

Douglas Elementary truly are!

The single elementary, middle school, and high school with the most registered

participants will win Healthy Lifestyle funding from the Wake PTA Council.  Registered participants can be runners, walkers, or race volunteers (volunteers are free, of course, and still get t-shirts and goody bags, as long as they register by November 8th). Registrants need

not be PTA members in order to register - simply  indicate affiliation with our school on the registration page.

Help our PTA by registering today and passing word around to others in

the community that might be interested in the race. You can ask them to

register affiliation with our school if they are not affiliated with another school!

Visit www.pta5k.org for details and registration (register before Nov. 8th for a $5 discount).  If you have any

questions about the Douglas team, please contact Beth Kind at

bkind@nc.rr.com.
