SCRIP Update

Welcome back!  Hope that your New Year is off to a good start.  A big thanks to all that has participated in the "Shopping for the Dragons".  At this halfway point in the school year, we have raised over $600 dollars for Douglas Elementary.  Please continue to buy these gift cards for your everyday purchases and in the process help to raise money for your child's school.  Does someone have a birthday soon?  Buy a gift card.   Where do you to eat out?  Buy a gift card.   Do you need to purchase some new clothes for school?  Buy a gift card.   I think you get the point.  Try to plan ahead and use our "Shopping for the Dragons" for your daily purchases.  Thank you again for your support of this program.  Congratulations to Miss Goodman's third grade class for winning the water bottles. Their class purchased over $2300 dollars in gift certificates.  Their class alone raised $150 dollars for the school.  Contact Carla Smith at 781-7613 or carlasmith@nc.rr.com with any questions. Keep shopping!

Yearbook Pictures Needed

We are working hard on completing the 2005/2006 yearbook, and we need your help!  Please submit any pictures that you have taken of school activities this year.  Write the grade on the back of the picture, place them in an envelope labeled “yearbook” and send it to school via your child's backpack.  This is a great way to assure that your child will be in the yearbook.  Please note that pictures cannot be returned.  We will collect pictures through the end of February.  The Yearbook Committee could also use your help in putting the yearbook together. No previous experience is needed, so if you would like to help, please contact Carla Smith at 781-7613 or carlasmith@nc.cc.com .

Getting to know….

Mrs. Lisa Trussler

Position:  Second Grade Teacher

Hometown:  Roanoke, Virginia

In 25 years, Lisa Trussler has taught hundreds of K-2 students in Virginia and North Carolina.  And those two-and-a-half decades in the classroom have taught her she's right where she wants to be.

"Second grade is definitely my favorite," says the veteran Douglas teacher.  "The children are more independent and so exited about learning.  I like their curiosity."  This native of Roanoke, Virginia, also loves traveling, history and antiquing.  She collects dolls, old buttons, vintage postcards, salt and peppershakers, pottery and Christmas ornaments from the 1920s on.  One of her most unusual collections is a vintage bride and groom cake topper from the 1800s to the 1950s.

She's traveled the U.S. and to Venezuela, and hopes to see Hawaii soon.

Claim to Fame or something unique:  Mrs. Trussler once sang with a gospel-singing group in Virginia.  Now her talent is keeping harmony in the classroom.
