SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT

PLANNING - PLEASE JOIN US

The next meeting of the Douglas School Improvement Planning team will be on Wednesday, January 23, 2008 at 4:15

pm in the Media center.  Our work will center on finalizing our Mission, Vision and Values statements as well as

continuing our work on SMART goals and aligning our plan with the county and state.

3rd GRADE INFORMANCE – MARK

YOUR CALENDARS NOW!

All 3rd grade classes will be sharing their work at a music and dance informance on Wednesday February 6th (an early release day) at 10:30 am  in the gym.  The informance centers on the 3rd grade science unit about sun, moon, earth systems, shadow and light.  Each class will present a shadow dance inspired by poetry, showcasing students' understanding of shadow and light. Two classes work together to  retell two different stories about the sun and moon with a sound score.  Please join us for this dazzling display!

ART ROOM NOTES

Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our art program - we greatly appreciate your donations and efforts!

Current Needs

5TH GRADERS: We are making fish sculptures to decorate our courtyard.  Please bring in 2 or 3 two-liter soda bottles, with the labels removed and the bottoms cut off (parental supervision required). We also need fishing line, lots of gel markers and black Sharpies for this project.

Summer Camps for the Artist!

Summer is coming up fast, and I want to mention some wonderful camps that offer fun and enrichment.  Now is the time to register! Scholarships may be available, so be sure to ask if you think you may qualify.

* All Arts and Sciences Camp at NCSU  http://web.uncg.edu/dcl/web/allarts/default.asp

This camp is WONDERFUL ... my 13 year old begs me to go back every year.  We highly recommend it!

* Summerquest at Cary Academy   http://www.caryacademy.org/summer/MainSummerandAux.html   I can personally recommend this camp.  There are lots of fun, educational topics to choose from.

* Artspace Summer Education Programs http://www.artspacenc.org/summer_arts.html

I have no experience with this camp, but they offer intensive art classes.

Dragon Bites Cookbook recipes seem to be a hit on our street..have you tried Cheesy Chicken Casserole, Grandma’s Casserole, Flavorful White Chili?  These are all yummy winter family pleasers.

If you would like to buy a cookbook, stop by the main office and pick up an order form.  Or pick one up at Family Night, Jan.25th.

Again, if your recipes were left out of the cookbook, please send them to armouw@earthlink.net. We will try to correct the mistake.
