Let’s Get Wrapping!

The Douglas PTA kicks off its annual Wrapping Paper sale this week!  Sales brochures and instructions will come home on Tuesday, following our in-school assemblies.  Let’s make this a great fundraising event for our school again this year so that we can provide some of the extras for out children.

You can involve friends, neighbors, and co-workers in supporting our school by inviting them to purchase something or make a donation  Parents may choose to make a $40 donation rather than selling the products, and this will qualify their student to participate in the year-end jump party that will again be part of our carnival.  The sale begins September 13 and will conclude on October 4.  Let’s make this a great event!  If you would like more information on this fund raising event, please contact Kim Lamb at 878-0848.

Get Involved at Douglas

Another school year has begun and excitement is in the air.  The school has a new look, fresh faces and now is the perfect time to get involved!  In the coming days, you will receive a “Volunteer Opportunities Sign-up Sheet” with complete descriptions of simple, yet very important jobs that need your help.

Our first big fundraiser is the Great Western Wrapping Paper Sale and we need your help for another successful year.  If you would like specific details or to sign-up you may contact Kim Lamb at (878-0848 or klamb2@nc.rr.com) or Wendy Sielaty at (846-6276 or dwsielaty@earthlink.net).

Media Center Madness

Do you have an extra 15 minutes this week?  Evelyn Bussell, our new Media Specialist and Belinda Sellers, our Media Assistant, would LOVE to have help shelving books in the new Media Center.  They are in the process of going through all the new books that have arrived, checking packing lists and scanning each book.  Let’s give these ladies some help!

Writing Assessment

This year’s 5th graders took the 4th grade writing assessment in March, 2005. The scores were distributed to parents in May.  Over the summer, the Individual Student Reports for the writing assessment became available.  This report describes the different achievement levels as well as the composing features and scoring rules.  These reports are available in the front office if you would like to pick it up.  If you have any questions, please call Kelli Williams, the test coordinator at Douglas, at 881-4897.
