Shopping For The Dragons’
Holiday Challenge Continues
Please continue to
utilize "Shopping for the Dragons" to make those gift card
purchases for the holiday season. Remember that Douglas Elementary gets a
percentage of the total gift cards purchased. You will have two more
chances to shop before the end of the year. Order forms will be due
on November 16 and November 30. The classroom with the most gift card
purchases through "Shopping for the Dragons" will receive Douglas
Dragon Water Bottles for each child. Currently Ms. Ransome's class
is in the lead with Ms. Goodman's class a close second. The November
1 order made $95 for the school and that was with only 7 families
participating. Imagine what we could do for Douglas Elementary if all
families and staff made their purchases through "Shopping for the
Dragons". Contact Carla Smith with questions at 781-7613 or carlasmith@nc.rr.com .
Keep shopping!
Wrapping Paper Delivery
The
products sold during the wrapping paper sale will arrive at Douglas this
Thursday, November 17. Parents may pick up the orders in the school gym during
these hours:
Thursday,
November 17 3:00 -
6:00
Friday,
November
18 3:00
- 6:00
Monday,
November 21 8:45 -
9:30
The
orders will be arranged by class. Parents will be asked to initial when they
pick up their order and have checked it for accuracy. All orders that have not
been picked up on Monday morning will be sent home with the students.
We
need four parent volunteers to help with this process each day. Please call
Susan Johnston to volunteer (782-0037).
The Student Council has chosen to raise money for
the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) again this year. We will be holding a couple of events during
the week of Nov. 14-18.
Some of the planned events include:
A Coins
for a Cure campaign. Students are
invited to clean out their piggy banks and donate money for a cure. Of course, other coins and paper money are
cheerfully accepted! Donations will be
accepted all week and will be made in the classroom. The grade level that collects the most money by the end of the
week will win a breakfast party (bagels, etc).
Tuesday-Thursday, students can guess how many acorns are in the big
jar. Each guess costs 25 cents. The person guessing closest wins a gift
certificate to The Learning Express toy store.
This will be held outside of the science room from 8:45-9:10.
On
Thursday, students are invited to participate in Caps for a Cure, by
wearing a favorite hat. Students are
encouraged to donate $1 for wearing a hat, although it is not required. We hope all students wear a hat to show
their support of finding a cure.
On Friday, November 18th, interested students will be participating in
the Kids Walk. The Kids Walk
will be during students’ recess time on the playground. Staff members and volunteers will be present
to offer encouragement and some goodies for those students who choose to walk
the 6 laps!
All
money collected this week will be given to the Juvenile Diabetes Research
Foundation (JDRF). Please make checks
payable to JDRF.
