The Fall Book Fair is coming early this year! It will take
place from Monday, October 24th, until 12 Noon on Friday, October 28th. This year, our Book Fair will be held in our
new media center, so plan to come by and see our new facilities and shop! The
Book Fair will be open Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 8:45-4:15, Tuesday
from 8:45-7:30, and Friday from 8:45-12 Noon.
We still need volunteers to work at the Book Fair. If you can give a few hours of your time
that week, please call/email Angie Collins at 954-9369, angie.collins@earthlink.net.
We will need additional assistance on Monday, October 24 when all children
visit the Book Fair to make their wish lists. This is a fun volunteer
opportunity but we need lots of parents to make it work. So give Angie a call
today!
Mark your calendar for
Tuesday, October 25 for Arts Night at Douglas.
The evening will begin with a spaghetti dinner from 5 to 6:30 p.m.,
catered by Carraba’s. All dinner
tickets must be pre-purchased for $5.00 a person. Look for pre-order forms in Monday folders. Don't miss a great meal at a great
deal! Other Arts Night doings include
Book Fair and various family activities.

Thanks to our Community Neighbors!
Thanks to Starbucks at
North Hills, and manager Mishelle Smith, who contributed coffee for the Teacher
and Staff Breakfast Cart on Thursday, September 29th.
Thank you to Bonefish Grill at
the Lassiter, and manager Greg Stow, for providing appetizers and
encouragement to our staff on Thursday, October 6th, after school.
Community donations make Douglas a great
place to work and learn.
Stop by and thank these
businesses for supporting Douglas!
Send in all of those Box Tops that you
have been collecting all summer. Now
through October 28th we will be counting all the Box Tops that each class
collects. The top-collecting class will
be awarded with lunch provided by Andy’s Pizza! Box Tops are such an easy way to raise money for
our
school. Each one we send in is worth
10¢. If each student sends in 10 Box
Tops we will receive a check for about $500!
So, trim your Box Tops neatly and send them in a baggy or envelope
marked with your student’s teacher’s name.
McTeacher’s Night
Just a reminder that McTeacher’s Night is Wed,
October 12 from 5:00 –8:00 p.m. at the McDonald’s at 6213 Falls of Neuse
Rd. Eat some burgers and raise some
bucks for Douglas.
Spend a morning with family and friends
and be part of the cure for juvenile diabetes.
Douglas is forming a team to walk in the JDRF (Juvenile Diabetes
Research Foundation) Walk to Cure Diabetes, which will be held on Saturday,
Oct. 29th at 10:30 in RTP.
Please contact Kelli Williams, our school counselor, at 881-4897 if you
or your family is interested in participating.
We're off and running
in 2005! What an exciting beginning to the school year...a new look at
Douglas, an energetic staff and the support of wonderful parents like
you. The PTA assisted with school pictures, and we appreciate the
dedication of Marie Hammond, Margie Stith, Cherette Roycroft and Andrea Mouw to
ensure this busy day was a huge success. Their patience and organization
"behind the screens" will assure these photo memories for each
of our families.
Douglas continues to unveil
more renovated areas with the new Media Center last week. The
monumental task of preparing the books, equipment, decorations and
other aspects of the
center were made possible by the following volunteers: Jackie Alexander, Carrie Johnson, Karen
Moore, Katrina Morris, Andrea Mouw, Fanny Paintal, Sally Roggenkamp,
Cecelia Schneider, Carla Smith and Alice Spickard. Our
media specialists, Evelyn Bussell and Belinda Sellers, will utilize the variety
of enhanced research tools and expanded book titles to broaden our
children’s' imaginations in creative ways. We appreciate everyone's hard
work and long hours to bring this important cornerstone of Douglas to fruition.
A special thanks to
Alice Spickard for helping organize all the PTA Hospitality activities! Some of her many helpers include Carrie
Johnson, Susan Cavanagh, Carla Smith, Andrea Mouw, Beth Gargan, Laura Sullivan,
and all the muffin bakers!
Thanks also go out to
Margie Stith for helping distribute this newsletter each week.
We have other
volunteer opportunities coming up this fall -- we encourage all parents to play
an active role in helping when they can. We couldn't do these activities
without you - thank you!
