Thanks For the Generosity

Thanks to everyone for their generosity towards the hurricane Katrina victims.  The Bakeless Bake Sale, Dragons for Katrina Sale, and Pajama Day generated $967.55 to be donated to the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Fund.  Way to go Douglas Dragons!

Tutors/Mentors needed!

If you have an extra 30 minutes a week and would like to work one on one with a student that is in need of support, please consider being a tutor/mentor.  Working one on one with a student is a great way to lift a child's self-esteem as well as help them academically.  If you are interested in helping out or have any questions, please call Kelli Williams, our guidance counselor at 881-4897. Thank you! Kelli

Book Fair Volunteers Needed

The Douglas PTA needs volunteers to work at the Book Fair, the week of October 24-28.   If you can give a few hours of your time that week, please call Angie Collins at 954-9369 or email her at angie.collins@earthlink.net .   We will need additional assistance on Monday, October 24 when all children visit the Book Fair to make their wish lists.   This is a fun volunteer opportunity but we need lots of parents to make it work.   So give Angie a call today!

PTA Meeting Thursday

Don’t forget to come to the PTA meeting on Thursday, October 6 at 6:30 p.m. in the Media Center.  It’s a great opportunity to learn about upcoming activities, get a construction update, talk to the principal, hear about curriculum changes, and make some new friends!  The meetings are very informative and all are welcome.  Hope to see you Thursday.

Save The Date

McTeacher’s Night is Wed, October 12 from 5:00 –8:00 p.m. at the McDonald’s at 6213 Falls of Neuse Rd.   Eat some burgers and raise some bucks for Douglas!

Media Center Opening

The Media Center will have its GRAND OPENING on Monday, October 3rd!  We are very excited and look forward to all classes "parading through" the Media Center that day.  The Media Center will continue to operate on a flexible schedule for instruction, which means that instruction occurs at the time of need, rather than on a fixed and rigid schedule; and, students can check out books at any time during the day as long as they have a pass from their teacher.  Parents are invited to visit us as well, whether just to see our new Media Center, or to volunteer.  Thanks again to all those parent volunteers who helped us get ready!
