We also are offering Art Smarts (art smart), Lego Builders (body smart/math smart), and Dance Club (body smart) for our K through 2nd graders. Also in the works are an advanced jump rope club (body smart), and an"Explorer's Club" (naturalist).  We also hope to have Science Olympiad (nature smart) and Odyssey of the Mind (math & people smart) teams. Many thanks to the parents and faculty who are donating their time and energy to provide these wonderful experiences for our students. For more information on clubs, feel free to contact Michelle Burrows, Magnet Coordinator.

Exciting Cultural Arts Events Planned for 0910!

Thanks to Douglas's fabulous PTA and a grant from the United Arts Council of Raleigh and Wake County, we have planned an exciting arts season for our students this year. Currently, writer in residence, Howard Craft is working with all of our 4th graders and helping them to create writing "masterpieces". On November 4th, Douglas students and staff will be treated to an amazing show by Japanese Origamist, Kunilo Yamamota. Then in February, Capital City Opera will perform "Poetry in Song" as they take our students own written poetry and turn it into opera. And finally, our 2nd graders will try their hands at ceramics, with clay artist, Joe Rock Edwards. It looks like it's going to be a great year for the arts at Douglas!

Billy Jonas Kicks Off Our 0910 Cultural Arts Season

Nationally acclaimed singer and songwriter, Billy Jonas, kicked off the 09-10 school year with a ROCKING performance for Douglas students and faculty! Teachers and students sang and played their "body instruments" as they enjoyed a lively performance. What a great way to kick of the year! Thanks to the Douglas PTA for supporting the arts at Douglas!
