FAQ
FAQs:
- What do I do if my child is late or sick?
If your child will be late to school or will be out sick for the day, please call the school and let the front office staff know your situation. When your child returns to school, please send in a signed note which explains the absence.
- What if I need to pick up my child early?
It is helpful to let the teacher know if your child will be leaving school early. When you need your child to leave early, you must come into the front office and sign him or her out. Please do not plan to check out children from 3:30pm to 3:45pm.
- How does Douglas manage behavior?
The Douglas staff first hopes to create a positive learning environment through the Positive Behavior Support program. If problems arise with individual children, the teacher first works to resolve the problem in class. If there is not a solution at the class level, the child may visit the Assistant Principal and/or Principal. Parents will receive a note home or be contacted if their child has been to visit the front office for disciplinary reasons.
In order for our Douglas School Community to be safe, responsible, and respectful, there are 5 main rules that Douglas students are taught. Students are taught and reminded of the "Big 5" throughout the school year, so that they will understand their responsibility to make good choices and help ensure the safety of all children:
- No Threats
- No Fighting
- No Stealing
- No Inappropriate Touching
- No Dangerous Items
If children choose to break these rules, they understand the consequence of their choice is suspension from school. These five rules are also found in the Wake County Public School System Student/Parent Handbook.
- How much does lunch cost?
Lunch costs $1.75 per meal. You may set up a lunch account with the cafeteria staff so that your child receives a pre-paid meal. Children with accounts receive a lunch number that they will need to remember and tell the cafeteria staff at the register.
- Does Douglas offer before and after school care?
Yes, Douglas offers both before school and after school care. For more information on these programs, please contact Mrs. Harrison (before school program) or Mr. Duval (after school program), at 881-4894.
